The history of refrigeration technology is actually the history of the development process of refrigerants. In the 1830s, Perkins invented the vapor compression refrigeration cycle, ushering in a period of development in refrigeration technology. The invention, renewal, and replacement of refrigerants have always been present throughout the entire process. Overall, the development trend of refrigerants should meet the requirements of sustainable ecological environment and promote their further development. According to the core requirement of coordinated economic development, resource protection, and ecological environment protection in sustainable development, there are two directions for the development of refrigerants:
The first one is environmental protection. The use of green and environmentally friendly refrigerants has become a trend. Green and environmentally friendly refrigerants can be synthetic or natural. Although synthetic environmentally friendly refrigerants do not cause damage to ozone, natural refrigerants are the most ideal choice from the perspective of sustainable development of the earth’s ecology.
The second is energy conservation. With the improvement of people’s living standards, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment are becoming more and more popular, and the large amount of energy they consume is also attracting people’s attention. This summer, 18 provinces and cities in China experienced a shortage of electricity. A survey by the China Electricity Regulatory Commission shows that the intensification of supply and demand contradictions has led to a tight electricity supply this summer, and the rapid growth of air conditioning and cooling loads is an undeniable factor. Therefore, in addition to improving refrigeration technology, we can also start with refrigerants. Developing new energy-saving refrigerants to reduce the energy consumption of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment is also a development direction.
In summary, the development of refrigerants is closely related to environmental protection and the sustainable development of the Earth’s ecological environment. The trend of refrigerant development reflects the requirements of sustainable environmental development.
