Propylene carbonate is a high-boiling polar aprotic carbonate solvent with a uniquely balanced property set: high dielectric constant, low volatility, low toxicity and excellent dissolving power.

1. Co-solvent in lithium-ion battery electrolyte formulations.
2. Physical absorbent for CO2 capture and natural-gas purification.
3. Polar aprotic solvent for polymers, resins, dyes and agrochemicals.
4. Cosmetic and paint-stripping formulations.
5. Plasticizer and intermediate for specialty synthesis.
