Introduction:
Sodium percarbonate is an inorganic compound and a strong oxidizing agent with the chemical formula 2Na2CO3·3H2O2. It is a white crystalline powder that releases oxygen when exposed to moisture. Sodium percarbonate is an addition compound of hydrogen peroxide and sodium carbonate, mainly used as a bleaching agent and oxidizing agent, as well as a detergent, cleaning agent, and disinfectant in chemical, paper, textile, dyeing, food, pharmaceutical, and sanitation industries.
Use:
In the textile industry, sodium percarbonate is used as a bleaching agent and reducing agent for dyeing. It can also be used independently as a disinfectant, deodorizer, and milk preservative. Sodium percarbonate has the advantages of being non-toxic, odorless, and non-polluting, and possesses bleaching, sterilizing, and washing properties, as well as good water solubility.
Sodium percarbonate is commonly used as an additive in laundry detergents, providing oxygen-based bleaching. It can also effectively increase dissolved oxygen in fish pond management. For commercial applications, it is usually coated with substances such as sulfates and silicates to improve its storage stability in laundry detergent formulations.
Compared to the more traditional laundry bleaching agent, sodium perborate, sodium percarbonate has the advantage of better storage stability and compatibility with other laundry detergent components, a feature that sodium perborate cannot match or replace. From a chemical structure perspective, the fundamental difference lies in the fact that sodium percarbonate exists as an adduct, while sodium perborate is a product with peptide bonds.
